Teaching Experience

  • 6 years 3 months (April 2002-June 2008) as full-time Assistant Professor, Department of Social and Environmental Medicine, University of the Ryukyus School of Medicine, Japan. Here I taught parasitology to undergraduate medical students (3rd, 4th, , and 5th year). upervised MS and PhD students.
  • 6 years (2015 – Present) Worked as external supervisor or co-supervisor for thesis work of 45 Master’s students and 39 undergraduate students from Dhaka University, BRAC University, Shajalal University of Science and Technology, Noakhali University of Science and Technology, Jagannath University, Jahangirnagar University, Khulna University, and Maulana Vasani University of Science and Technology. For all these, students, thesis works were completed under my direct supervision. Also, I worked as a co-supervisor for 5 PhD students from University of Dhaka.

 

  • Part-time teaching: Sometimes I work as part-time teacher of BRAC University. For example, I taught “Animal Tissue Culture Techniques and Application” (Course: BTC 503) to Master’s students of Biotechnology program during Fall Semester, 2019.

 

  • Teaching as resource personnel of Center for Medical Biotechnology (CMBT), Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family welfare, to teach medical biotechnology to biological researchers/health professionals.

 

Professional Appointments and work experience

1994-1995                   : Biochemist (Medical Laboratory, Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh)

I worked here as a part-time employee. Responsibilities included:

  • Analysis of biochemical parameters of patients’ samples
  • Data management and recording
  • Respond to queries when required
  • To give training to new staff

 

1995-1997                   : Research Officer (Immunology Unit, Laboratory Sciences Division, International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh, Dhaka) Principal Investigator: Firdausi Qadri, Ph. D.

In this organization, I conducted research on two major research projects as follows:

  • Human trial of a cholera vaccine manufactured in Sweden.
  • Gut homing potentials of circulating lymphocytes (PBMCs) of cholera patients.

In addition to research, I assisted in training junior staff in the laboratory.

 

2008 Apr-2013 Jun : Assistant Professor (Faculty Position) (Department of Social and Environmental Medicine, Division of Tropical Parasitology, University of the Ryukyus School of Medicine, Japan).

Responsibilities included, but were not limited to:

  1. Teaching (experience/duties):
    1. Undergraduate Courses
      1. Immunology- teaching 3rd year, 4th year and 5th year Undergraduate medical students in small groups through lectures and laboratory work (more than 50 to 60 hours per year).
      2. Parasitology-Teaching Medical Parasitology to 3rd year Undergraduate medical students in the formal classroom of 105 students through lectures and demonstration during practical classes 60 hours/year).

 

    1. Graduate Courses
      1. To supervise research students to design and help execute their experimental research on immunology and to assist in data management and writing dissertation and research articles.
      2. To teach graduate students through journal club demonstration.
      3. Co-supervise research students who were seeking M. S. degree from the Department of Social and Environmental Medicine.

 

  1. Main Research (Experience/Duties):
    1. To design and execute major research projects.
    2. To assist in the conduction of collaborative research projects.
    3. To carry out field survey in the malaria endemic areas of LaoPDR. We had multiple research projects on human malaria based on field surveys.

Since Division of Tropical Parasitology to which I was affiliated belonged to Department of Social and Environmental Medicine, sometimes I was instructed to conduct some research works other than parasitological. For example, I studied the effect of royal jelly in health and diseases.

  2. Role of honeybee royal jelly in the amelioration of autoimmunity.
  3. Role of honey bee royal jelly in the restoration of stress-induced immune regulation.

  1. Study the role of natural auto-antibodies and associated B cells in health and diseases using transgenic mouse model
  2. Study the role of small nucleolar RNA 42 (snoRA42) in the development of cancer stem cells in non-small cell lung cancer.
  3. Autoantibody biomarker profiling for early detection of lung cancer
  4. Identification of cancer stem (tumor initiating) cells from lymphoma cell lines
